The Arboretum & Our Local Youth

An important aspect of our program is helping our youth appreciate and learn about nature. The Arboretum provides a perfect classroom!

The Education & Conservation Committee has developed Discovery Packs that are available for checkout for youth ages 9 to 12. The Trees Discovery Pack allows students to learn the parts of a trees, what trees need to live, how to measure the size of a tree and much more. A manual, magnifying glasses, measuring tapes and laminated leaves are some ofkids on Arbor Day the items included in the Pack.

Arbor Day tree plantings and activities provide our elementary youth with learning experiences coupled with a fun time, such as going on Nature Scavenger Hunts.  One student wrote in a thank-you note, "It was really fun planting the tree. It was also fun looking at the middle of the tree. I also liked when we did the scavenger hunt."kids on Arbor Day

Local Tahoma High students have participated in Arboretum projects as well as members of the Boy Scouts of America. The work they've done has greatly enhanced the Arboretum grounds. Several Eagle Scouts have completed projects such as building fences, laying sod, installing benches, and restoring trails.
