A rock garden is a small field or plot of ground designed to feature and emphasize a variety of rocks, stones, and boulders. The Lake Wilderness Arboretum’s Rock Garden not only features a variety of rocks, but the amazing plants that can grow in this type of setting. And since we’re really about the plants, you could say that our Rock Garden is a collection of plants that look good planted among rocks. Generally, plants that do well in a rock garden can thrive in poor soil, prefer good drainage, are drought resistant, and often have compact growth. The Arboretum’s Rock Garden started as an alpine garden but the decision was made to expand the variety of plants and show our community the array of plants that can grow in this type of setting.
